Trigger Software Updates re-scan in SCCM 2012

In an OSD when you do a Install Software Updates step, sometimes not all Updates will be installed. Even if you repeat this step a couple of times. The reason for this is the high time-to-live of the cache of the evaluation scan. But there is a methode to tell the SMS Agent that the TTL is invalid, so that the scan will run again.

Here is how to trigger Software Updates re-scan in SCCM 2012:

  • In your Tasksequence, add a step Install Software Updates
  • Then, after this step, simply create another step in the TS and put the following in it:
WMIC /namespace:\\root\ccm path sms_client CALL TriggerSchedule "{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000113}" /NOINTERACTIVE
  • Create a third step with a Install Software Updates again

You can repeat this until all software updates have been installed.
