Nintendo has this new policy, that every game that can be purchased physically can also be downloaded via the 3DS eShop. Since the standard 3DS only includes a 2GB, you can soon run out of space.

So here is how to transfer data to a new SD card on a 3DS:

  • Insert the old SD card from your Nintendo 3DS into the SD card slot on your PC.
  • Open Windows Explorer and go to the SD card.
  • Copy all the data to a new folder on your hard drive.
  • Eject the old SD card and insert the new one.
  • Make sure it is formatted with the FAT32 file system.
  • Copy all the data from the new folder directly to the new SD card.

Note: The maximum officially supported size for a SD card on a 3DS system is 32GB.
