Test your router for open ports

Sometimes, if you buy a new router, or if you use the one from your internet provider, it isn´t as secure as it should be. Open ports mean, that a malicious software can go through your firewall and attack the component that is listening behind that port.

To test for open ports you need an online portscanner.

Right-click on the link above and select "open in new tab".

On the website of the online portscanner select "scan":

This will take a while, just wait a few minutes until the process is finished.


The result will look something like this:

Now look for any ports that have the status "open". If you have opened these ports yourself, everything is fine. If not, you should close them in the configuration page of your router or talk to your internet provider so that he closes them for you.
