Remove sleep mode password in Windows 8

When you put your computer in sleep mode and then wake it up again, the default behavior in Windows 8 is, that it will display a login screen and ask for your password. Even if you already removed the password from normal login.

Here is how you turn the sleep mode password off:

  • Push the Windows key on your keyboard and start typing "control panel".
  • As soon as "Control panel" shows up, hit enter.
  • In the Control Panel window click on Power options.
  • Click on Require a password on wakeup.
  • Click on Change Setting that are currently unavailable.
  • Click on Don't require a password.
  • Click on Save changes to apply this setting.
  • Put your computer in sleep mode to try your new settings.
