In Windows 8 a lot of users still prefer to work on the classic desktop (see Automatically switch Windows 8 to the classic desktop). But Windows 8 does not provide any way out of the box to launch apps from the classic desktop. Luckily, there is a way around this.

Here is how to launch Windows 8 apps from the classic desktop:

  • Right click on the desktop.
  • Select New, select Shortcut.
  • Type
Explorer Shell:AppsFolder

in the Location box.

  • Click Next.
  • Enter any name for the shortcut and click Finish.

In this new shortcut you will find all your installed programs, including the apps. You can now start all from the classic desktop.
