HP Port Replicator previous uninstall not yet complete

If you have a HP port replicator and the software keeps telling you the error message

A previous uninstall of HP Port Replicator Software is not yet complete.
Please reboot your Computer and run this installer again to installation.

then what you should try is to right click on the installation software, go into properties, then to compatibility and select Windows 7 in the compatibility mode .

This worked for me, the software will now install. I had this problem on a Windows 8 client.
