If you have a portable device such as a notebook or a laptop you want to get the most out of your battery.

It would be so great if Windows would just give you a report of what to do to optimize your battery life.

Well, in fact, Windows already has such a functionallity build in, here is how to get such a report:

  • Hit the Windows key and type cmd. Hit CTRL + Shift + Enter to run as administrator or right-click cmd and choose "Run as administrator."
  • At the command line, type in the following:
powercfg -energy -output c:\temp\report.html

Instead of c:\temp\report.html specify any folder and filename.

  • powercfg will take a mibute to examine the behavior of your portable device.
  • When powercfg is done, open the report you just created and look at the suggestions on how to improve your battery life.
