Disable the Windows 8 lock screen

Since Windows 8 runs on both traditional PCs and on Tables, both of them share the lock screen.

While it may be usefull in some scenarios, for most users it is just an additional step in the boot sequence.

Here is how to disable it:

  • Hit Windows Key + R.
  • Type gpedit.msc and hit Enter.
  • Navigate to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Control Panel, Personalization.
  • Double-click the entry titled Do not display the lock screen on the right side.
  • Select Enabled in the window that appears.
  • Click OK twice.

The Windows 8 lock screen is now disabled.
