Disable JavaScript in Adobe Reader

PDF documents have been the target of criminal minds a lot, one of the reasons is because JavaScript is enabled in Adobe Reader.

To make it a lot safer, you can turn the support off in the preferences:

  • Run Adobe Reader.
  • Select Edit -> Preferences
  • Select the JavaScript Category
  • Uncheck the ‘Enable Acrobat JavaScript’ option
  • Click OK

Although this step will disable many PDF exploits, some exploits could function even with JavaScript disabled, so restricting JavaScript is only the first step you need to take to safeguard the system.
