Customize the time on the Windows 8 lock screen

Normally, the format of the time on the Windows 8 is the same as the one in the taskbar in the desktop view. But with a few registry tweaks, you can actually change the format, and even add some ascii (ASCII Table) art, so that it will be custimized even further.


Here is how to customize the time on the Windows 8 lock screen:

  • Hit the windows key and type
regedit

and hit enter to start the registry editor.

  • Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ SystemProtectedUserData\[yourID]\ AnyoneRead\LocaleInfo.

Replace [yourID] with the ID you find in the tree. It is unique to your Windows version.

  • Right click on LocaleInfo and select Permissions....
  • Make sure that you have Full Control (set it for Everyone).
  • On the right side, you can change the TimeFormat.
