In Windows Vista and Windows 7 you got your shut down button in the start menu. The default action for this button is to turn off your computer.

But what if you need an other option (like restart) more commonly?

Well then just change the default action:

  • Press the Windows key to open your start menu.
  • Right-Click on the shut down button and select properties.
  • In the Power button action drop-down menu and select which action you want to be the default.
  • Click OK twice.

When you enter your start menu now you will see the new action assigned to the shut down button.
