Count frequency of a certain word in Microsoft Word

Unfortunately there is no direct way to count the number of occurrences of a particular word or sentence in Microsoft Word.

But with this little workaround it works nevertheless:

  • Start Microsoft Word and load the file you want to count one or more words in.
  • Place the cursor at the top of the document.
  • Press Ctrl + H to open the Word Replace Dialog.
  • In the field Find What type the word you want to count.
  • In the field Replace With type the word you want to count again.
  • Click Replace All.
  • A popup will tell you how many words have been replaced. That is how often the word(s) have been found in the document.
