There is already an article how to Boot Windows 8 in Safe Mode, but this doesn´t work with F8 alone.

If you absolutly must have the F8 key back to bring up the old boot menu, here is how:

  • Open a command prompt (CMD) as administrator.
  • Type
bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

and press enter.

You can now bring up the Advanced Boot Options again by pressing F8.

To reverse this setting, do the following:

  • Open a command prompt (CMD) as administrator.
  • Type
bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy standard

and press enter.

Note: Only do this if all other options don´t work for you, since it turns around some usefull Windows 8 features.
