One of the big new features that comes with Windows 8.1 is the ability to boot directly to the classic desktop instead of the Start Screen. But this feature is not where you might think.

Here is how to boot Windows 8.1 directly to desktop mode:

  • Boot up Windows 8.1 and switch to the Desktop.
  • Right click any open area in the taskbar.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the Navigation tab.
  • Check the box next to Go to the desktop instead of Start when I sign in.
  • Click OK.

That´s it, Windows will boot directly to the classic Desktop now.
