If you bought a new PC, or set up your PC with a new OS, you cannot access your iPod because it has been registered on the iTunes on your old PC. When you would now install iTunes again and try to reconnect it to your iPod, everything on your portable music device would be lost.

Here is how to backup your iPod without iTunes:

  • First you need a program for the backup, so download iDump Classic.
  • Install the program you just downloaded.
  • Run it.
  • Now, plug in your iPod, select the songs you want to save and click on the Start Copy button.
  • You are done, you can now clean your iPod by registering it on iTunes again and copy the files you just saved on it again using iTunes.
